A68 west on to B6278 then B6306 at Blanchland Blanchland Moor   Car parking in the village.  Clear tracks across open heather moorland, some rought and boggy  Dogs on leads.  Refreshments and facilities in the village.

A688 Bishop Auckland General walks at Bishop Auckland.  Free parking at The Batts near the River Wear.  Walk along the river (some road walking) and in Auckland Castle park. Refreshments and toilets in the town centre.

A688 Auckland Way Railway Path, from Whitworth Road car park just north of Spennymoor.

 
A1(M) junction 62  A690 from Durham to Crook then A689 right on to B6290 Baal Hill Wood, the remnant of a larger forest with tracks and gentle slopes.  Nearby is Tunstall Reservoir.  Car park.  Refreshments in nearby Wolsingham but there is a picnic site at the car park.

A1(M)  junction 58  A68 Hamsterley Forest, signposted from the A68.  Access  charged on the Forest Drive, visitor centre, free parking toilets, cafe, many waymarked walks.

A68  A689 west from Stanhope to Eastgate, then Rookhope Weardale, north Pennine moorland.  Car park next to the village hall, then follow the cycle track by the post office.  Moorland footpath to mining relics.
