M5 junction 27 A361 Tiverton - Grand Western Canal Country Park  Comprised of eleven and a quarter miles of accessible and  level towpath.  Car parks at Tiverton Basin, Manley Bridge, Tiverton Road Bridge, and Sampford Peverell, free car park opposite village hall (nearest to junction 27 M5).  Public toilets and picnic sites as well as local pubs. Well signposted with brown tourist signs.

M5 junction 26 Wellington Monument - National Trust site. For the more adventurous walker.  No facilities. Parking available in North Street, Wellington.

A39 Between Barnstaple and Lynton A399 towards South Molton.

Wistlandpound Forest for fishing, picnics or a gentle  stroll.  Car parking and disabled access. OS Outdoor Leisure 9
M25 junction 27  A361 Tiverton to Barnstaple then A361 to Braunton

Saunton Sands, Croyde.  Lovely walks on beach and dunes. Hotel and camp sites, car parking and South West Coastal Path.  OSE 139
A379 Exeter, Countess Wear Riverside Valley Country Park and Exeter Canal. Choice of canal paths and riverside fields (sometimes grazing for bullocks). Parking limited but on either side of  the road.  Not well signposted but a favourite with cyclists.

A38 from Exeter to Plymouth Haldon Forest Park - many trails for cyclists, horse riders and walkers.  Follow brown tourist signs near Exeter Racecourse.   Car park charge. Toilets.  Dog walkers be aware that there are deer  throughout the park. OSL 192 or OSE 110 grid ref SX 884 849
A38/A380  to Torbay Another part of Haldon Forest with more walks. Take exit signposted to Mamhead and Starcross on  the left, then first right signposted to Ashcombe (not  very clear).  Free car park on the left but no toilets.    Picnic site.  Excellent flat walks to the Obelisk, also more challenging walks on the opposite side of the  road for longer leg stretches.  Wonderful views across the  Exe Estuary to Chesil Beach on a clear day and to  Dartmoor.   Again be aware of the deer if  your dog is inclined to chase.

Follow signs to Parke Estate and car park.  National Trust,  3miles of mixed terrain through woodlands and meadows.  May be muddy in parts.

A380  Torquay Cockington Country Park, car parking, cafe, restaurant, toilets, network of footpaths and bridle  trails.  Disabled access.

A30 from Exeter Follow signposts at Whiddon Down

Fingle Bridge along the banks of the River Teign following a woodland path.  Rocky in parts and for the more adventurous a climb to Castle Drogo (Nat Trust).   Car parking

M5 junction 30 A3052 / A376 - B3179 Excellent walking on Woodbury Common if limited by seasonal restrictions on the beach. A rare Jurassic pebblebed heath, 240 million years old.  Deer are present sometimes in the copses and if you have a nervous dog the Royal  Marines can be using  their grenade range on the Colyton Raleigh side during the  week. Many trails to follow, car parking but no facilities.

Mutters Moor - another part of the pebblebed heath on the Jurassic Coast. Car parking at Peak Hill, open heath, woodlands and a golf course close by.
