Auckland Way Railway Path, from Whitworth Road car park just north of Spennymoor.

Whitworth Hall Country Park, home of Bobbie  Shafto. Deer present in parkland so dogs on leads.  Woodland walk, parking, restaurant, toilets.

Hardwick Country Park. Parking, picnic site, toilets. Former landscaped garden with follies and lake.

Hamsterley Forest, signposted from the A68.  Access  charged on the Forest Drive, visitor centre, free parking toilets, cafe, many waymarked walks.
